Troubleshooting the Apple Pencil (USB-C) Not Connecting to the Apple iPad
If connecting your Apple Pencil to iPad fails, try the following fixes:
1. Fully Charge the Apple Pencil
- Plug in or attach for at least 15-20 minutes before pairing.
- A dead battery often causes no response or failed pairing.
2. Reset Network Settings
- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
- This clears Bluetooth® pairing cache that may block the connection.
3. Restart the iPad
- Restarting your iPad can help with pairing issues as it can resolve temporary glitches or software conflicts that prevent successful connections.
4. Use Official Accessories Only
- Unofficial USB-C adapters or third-party cables often fail to initiate pairing.
- Recommend using the USB-C cable that came with your iPad.
5. Update iPadOS
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
- Apple Pencil pairing and Scribble often depend on updated OS functionality.
6. Keeping your Apple Pencil
- If you don’t use your Apple Pencil often, please be sure to charge it at least once a month.
- The Apple Pencil Battery needs to maintain a trickle charge always.
- Non-use of the Apple Pencil may result in it not working at all.
- The Apple Pencil battery is not replaceable.
- If you find you are not using the Apple Pencil at all, it is OK to return it to the Digital Marin Team, so we can offer it to another Resident.
Some Residents already have, it’s OK!
How to Turn On the Apple Pencil (Clarified)
